Hold down the left trigger and it will be embued with the power of the storm; if you hold it long enough for the storm to take – there’s an audio and visual cue – and then attack while in left trigger stance, you can unleash a devastating blow.
Yhorm the Giant Information
Not Optional: all Lords of Cinder must be defeated to advance the game. Siegward of Catarina can help you fight this enemy. His questline must have been completed up to this point.
There is no summons for Yhorm although it is worth noting if the player has completed his quest steps up to the battle Siegward of the Knights of Catarina will appear behind you during the boss cutscene (with no summon) and make the battle very easy due to him wielding a Storm Ruler.
He primarily uses yhorms GM while off handing a straight sword, and it indeed can be parried 1 handed r1s and r2s.
Yhorm the Giant bonfire
Defeating Yhorm the Giant will automatically fast travel you back to the church at the bottom of High Wall of Lothric.
To reach the Irithyll Dungeon Bonfire, start by heading to the Distant Manor Bonfire in Irithyll of the Boreal Valley. Go past the Burning Stake Witch in the room below and head out the back door. Continue down the cliffside path to reach a doorway on the left, halfway down the path.
With the fading of the First Flame, Yhorm chose to offer his soul to the fire in hopes it would help his people, but upon his resurrection, it is shown that despite his best efforts, he had failed, his home was reduced to ruins, what remained of his subjects transformed into vile monsters.
Not optional: you must defeat them to obtain the “small doll”, which serves as a key item to traverse through the magic barrier sealing off the entry to Irithyll of the Boreal Valley.
Siegward’s promise with Yhorm must have been to use the Storm Ruler to take Yhorm down if need be. Yhorm was aware that he might not always uphold his same values, so he had his old friend make a promise to uphold them for him.
Whether you summon him or not, his corpse (holding the Gotthard Twinswords) will be at the entrance to the Grand Archives after defeating Dragonslayer Armour. His body won’t appear there if you reach the Grand Archives before you have killed Abyss Watchers, Aldrich, Devourer of Gods and Yhorm the Giant.
If you summon a phantom and THEY die before you even get to the boss fog, quite and reload, and the sign should show back up where it was (though they will raaarely die before a boss, just lose health).
