Sony says that the move to discontinue to the storefronts was “born out of a number of factors, including commerce support challenges for older devices” along with a desire to focus more on newer products (like the PlayStation 5).
The PlayStation Vita, which launched in the winter of 2011-2012, was shut down in March 2019. The closure of the PlayStation Store presents more of an issue for PS Vita users, considering how many of that platform’s notable games were indie-developed and sold online.
If you’re thinking of buying a PS Vita in 2020 your best bet is to use third-party retailers, as the console was discontinued in 2019. If you’re looking for more ways to explore handheld gaming, then I definitely recommend buying a PS Vita – even if it is 2020.

Depends on what you want from a Sony Handheld. If you want a better screen and the like, go with the 1000. However, if you want better memory and a charger that is more easily replaced when it fails, go with the 2000. The PS Vita 2000 has actual internal memory, while the 1000 does not.

Firstly, if you can find a great deal there’s absolutely no reason not to pick one up. It’s every bit as powerful and plays all the same games. Plus, this version has a much-vaunted OLED screen which is better than the LCD unit in the 2014 model.

“In particular, blue OLEDs historically have had a lifetime of around 14,000 hours to half original brightness (five years at 8 hours a day) when used for flat-panel displays.” So that’s 5 years of 8 hours/day to get to half brightness.
