On 1 June 2011 annual testing was introduced for cars 10 years and older i.e. cars having their 10th anniversary or subsequent test. The validity period of an NCTS certificate issued to a car 10 years and older from June 2011 will be valid to the anniversary of registration the following year.
The NCT fee for a full test is €55 Euro and a re-test costs €28 Euro. Re-tests, which do not require the use of test equipment will be free (for example, replacement of windscreen wiper and registration plates.)

NCTS has now updated the new test due date for all vehicles that qualified for the 4 month extension as announced by the Minister. Customers are encouraged to check their new test due date. The extension of NCT due dates applies only to vehicles with a test due date of 28 March 2020 or later.
