Once the player has one blue and one green Chocobo of each gender they can be mated with another Carob Nut to produce a black Chocobo. To get a black chocobo the breeding pair needs nine race wins between them for a 100% chance. A gold Chocobo is born.
The Gold Chocobo
Once you have your black chocobo, head off to the chocobo tracks in the Icicle area to catch a ‘wonderful’ chocobo. These are the chocobos that appear with either one or two Jumpings.
Players can change the color of their Chocobo by feeding them snacks while the chocobo is in its Stable. Once the chocobo has been fed a suitable combination of snacks, its plume will change after 6 hours (Earth Time). Keep in mind that different snacks will alter the colors differently.
To unlock flight you need an Aether Current, which is needed to control their direction in the air. Upon getting the Black Chocobo Whistle, you will learn that you will need to unlock Aether Currents throughout the six areas of Ishguard. Unlock all of them and the Chocobo will be able to fly.
Talk to Billy about mating chocobos and he’ll tell you to choose the chocobos, choose good male chocobo and great female chocobo and give them a carob nut. If you are lucky then you’ll get a blue chocobo, if not then reload the game and try again until you get one.
Blue chocobos are bred from a good chocobo and a great chocobo with a Carob Nut, and can breed with a green chocobo to receive a black chocobo. Blue chocobos can cross shallow water and rivers, but cannot enter the ocean.
The player must find a Chocobo whose level is a multiple of four and give it some Mimett or Sylkis Greens. The character with the Enemy Skill Materia equipped must cast L4 Suicide, which can be obtained from the Mus in the area near the Chocobo Farm.
The black-plumed chocobo is the only variety capable of flight. Can be found in the Galerria Deep during the month of Coppersun, which is the month following Rosefire, or in Rupie Mountains during the month of Greenfire.
Xelphatol Apple Acquired from Gardening. A Realm Reborn Patch Items.
In order to change your Chocobo’s color, you’ll need to stable it at your house, either a personal one or a Free Company one. Stables can be bought from the Housing Merchants for 125,000 Gil, and they are an outdoor item so you’ll need enough space for one in your garden area.
A white Chocobo. A white Chocobo is found in Mideel and, if given Mimett Greens and tickled behind its ears, will give the player the Contain Materia.
Green Chocobos can cross mountains, allowing you to access Lucrecia’s Cave, the Mime Materia cave along the southern end of Wutai island, and the Ancient Forest (see the included map, above).
To cause a soft reset, the player must simultaneously press the shoulder buttons and a number of other buttons depending on the console. Due to the placements of the buttons and rare usage during gameplay, it is hard to accidentally command a soft reset, but not too difficult to command a soft reset when necessary.
Sylkis Greens are bought from the Chocobo Salon at Wiz Chocobo Post after completing all of Wiz Forlane’s quests. They can be fed to rented chocobos while camping. They cost 300 gil and boost all of a chocobo’s attributes.
Regular Chocobos, Blues, and Greens require around a dozen Sylkis to max out. Black Chocobos around 15ish and Gold are somewhere closer to 20 I believe. You’ll know that they’re maxed when the dialogue box after feeding them only says “They are getting along better” without any increases to other stats.
Chocobos are, almost certainly, trademarked by Square. Because BfW is not-for-profit, there is no possibility of paying for the right to use them. So for legal reasons, it is not possible to include anything that is recognisably a Chocobo.
Training. Should you wish to develop a given attribute, you can give your race chocobo a special feed. This feed can be crafted or purchased from the Tack & Feed Trader NPC in the Manderville Gold Saucer at Chocobo Square (X:5.9 Y:4.7). Affects how quickly your chocobo can run.
Final Fantasy VII
Laser can be learned from the enemies Death Claw and Dark Dragon. If not learned from a Death Claw in the Corel Prison when the party has the chance, it is unattainable until the final dungeon.
